When did Ruger Blackhawk grips first change?
When did Ruger change from their original black eagle grips to the silver ones? Did all the 3-screw blackhawks have black eagle medallions? Thanks for any information.

Mid 1971 was when the change in the Ruger eagle in the grips came about. A real fat flat silver eagle was used until late 72, then was changed to the familiar skinny eagle. 0 -

Ruger changed from Black Eagles to Silver Eagles in 1972, but they did not change the blue screw and escutcheons until around the time the first stainless models were introduced. So, if you have a late production 1971,'72,'73 3 screw with Silver Eagles the grips should also have the blue screw and escutcheons.

one other tid bit of info, if you remove the wood grips you will find "RED" and some numbers in the casting, the "RED" means "REDesigned", back in the late 60's-early 70's i removed the original aluminum grip frames and replaced them with the Ruger Super Blackhawk steel grip frames, sure gives the gun a better "FEEL" , and if you have "big hands" the steel frames gives you that needed comfort level.
i have a .357 mag. and a .41 mag. both are 3 digit S/N's0
