I was wanting to find out what I could clean and condition my rifle (stock and barrel) without hurting the value of the gun. All recommendations are welcome.

"Cleanzoil" works well on both wood and metal 0 -
As long as you dont use sandpaper and a wire brush. [:D]
Try a google search on proper rifle cleaning.0 -
Balistol is made for Metal, Wood & Leather Great stuff . If you want to get all the surface rust off keep Metal wet for 24 hours with paper towels wet with KROIL then use burlap to scrub NO NOT use ANY KIND OF STEEL WOOL OR SAND PAPER nothing rougher then BURLAP. 0 -
To clean the steel, take the barreled action out of the stock, wet it thoroughly with Kroil, let it sit for 24-hours, then using fine copper wool (wetted with Kroil), gently scrub all of the rust and grime off of the steel. As you are scrubbing, stop and wipe frequently and reapply fresh Kroil until the surfaces are clean. Do not use any more elbow grease than is required to remove the active rust/corrosion.
Clean the stocks with any qaulity furniture cleaning oil.0 -
Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the tips. Great Site!!! 0 -
Should there be any type of polish or poly to protect the wood or is that a major no no?

I use Carnuba Wax to really bring out the lustre, put 2 coats on it.0 -
One more thing. I am a wood craftsman and wanted to know should the stock ever be resurfaced and treated to make like new again or will that effect it's value? I am thinking about selling it and wouldn't want to mess it up. 0 -
Do nothing to the stock other than clean it. Winchester originally oil finished them. 0 -
Got it, thanks Bert. 0
