The S & W Model 37 is the most common air weight S & W revolver. It would have substantial value if factory original, as they aren't common with a nickel finish.
Make sure it's in time and locks up tight. Although they are very handy handguns to carry, they aren't nearly as durable as the steel frame snubbies that Smith made. The air weights were made to be carried a lot and shot seldom. I got hold of cherry one made in the 50's, years back. Just after firing 200-300 hundred rounds it went out of time and started spitting lead. Really torqued me that S & W would put such a fragile piece of s**t on the market. Went out and bought a Ruger SP 101, which unlike the Model 37 is built like a tank.
Sorry I misread your original post, the Model 38 is similar to the 37 except it has a shrouded hammer. If original, factory nickel, it would be it even less common then a nickel Model 37.0 -
IIRC, the Model 38 was known as the Bodyguard. Pretty much a Chief's Special with a shrouded hammer to prevent snagging on clothes. Started production 1955, and the airweight version WAS made in blue and in nickel. Made well before the +P era started, the alloy frame was made to be carried a lot, shot a little. 0
