I recently purchased a 6-inch Colt New Frontier .22 off GB.
    The SN is G222...
    - Any ideas the date of manufacture?

Added Colorado Elk grips this week.
    Looks great.

    015255:

If the serial number is G222XX then it was manufactured in 1971.

If the serial number is G222XXX then it was manufactured in 1984.

Your numbers don't agree with my reference, Colt's DOM (R.L. Wilson) and Blue Book Pocket Guide. 3rd Generation New Frontier Single Action Army (SAA)

    1978 - 7501NF
    1979 - 04426NF
    1980 - 06268NF
    1981 - 11373NF
    1982 - 16583NF
    1983 - 16829NF

1978 numbers were continuation of 2nd generation. 1979 started new numbers with "0" prefix. After that the numbers don't seem to follow any pattern.

The G prefix numbers ARE NOT Single Action Army pistols. They are New Frontier 22 Peacemakers and New Frontier 22 Scouts which are single action .22's

Thanks for getting back with me.
Tonight I rechecked the Colt New Frontier.
The serial number is G2224XX (one letter, six digits)
So we're thinking this is perhaps 1984-ish ?
I sure appreciate the follow up, guys.

015255........My guess is 1986, but the numbering system seemed to make a change after that, going with G prefix and smaller numbers. I think the problem was the Scout and Peacemaker numbers being integrated with each other.

It does not say Scout on it anywhere
but does have the G-series serial number.
Don't know if that means anything, though,
other than the serial number starting with a
    Letter G....
It does have a safety in the loading area
so it would appear to be later.
I had bought this for the grandsons to use
due to issues we were having with the
Heritage Rough Rider originally intended for them.
The only notes on the Colt state "New Frontier."
    So perhaps 1986-ish?

If the frame is not case hardened in color Then it is a scout.

EDITlook at all the pictures for auction #225129639 This will show a Colt Centerfire model SAA but pay close attention to the color of the frame it looks sort of like a drop of oil on top of a container of water. This is called Case Color a finish on the 22 Rimfire Peacemaker and NEW FRONTIER. the scouts will just be a solid color or maybe plated...

EDIT 2Finally got my picture to load this is the best Case color pistol I own the colors are vivid if kept out of direct sun light and wear from your hands most pistols will fade in color.

Could you expand on "hardened in color"
    - I don't know what to look for there.
    Thanks
