Have owned several pre-64s over the years. Only read about the Ikon. Would NEVER trade a 70 for the TC, but 1 or more of both could be interesting. Know of nothing about the TC that would give it the upper hand, but then I have a big ol' blind spot when it comes to older Winchesters, Colts and Smiths.

I would'nt trade a 70 for 3 Icons. That being said, thomson makes good stuff.

You know I started looking into them after a clip on American Rifleman, the barrels, the MOA, the craftsmanship, yada yada.......but thinking more about it, I don't know if it can possibly be more acurate than what I have now. I can cover my group at 100 with a quarter and have a kill at 400yrds, it likes 140gr ballistc tip or hollow point boat tails with 49.5 gr of powder. what started all this was the TC.30, but that is starting to look like just another .308.

The Icon is a nice rifle, but the pre 64 is the finest production bolt gun ever made IMO.

    I'll second that.

Those are both great rifles. The Pre-64' Model 70, well, they don't make it any more, and you are wise to hang on to it. If you want to, and can afford it would be wise to have both of them...don't just settle for one.

Never give up a known good rifle. For any reason the rifle is great. I'm impressed by the Icons and want one. But, I've had a ton of other wants and wishes that have taken precedence. Therefore I haven't gotten one. As good as Thompson Center is too, I have a hard time with the price for a bolt action that isn't configured the way I want it to be. The last three bolt action rifles I've bought have been for donor actions. But, if they offered what I was looking for that action would be next on the priority list.

thanks guys, I'll keep my eye out for a good deal on the TC, don't think I can spring for one off the shelf right now. I just ordered the Ziess 4-14X50 for the model 70 and neede to recover a bit.
