S & W 686 w/ Adj. Front Sight
I have a like new in box S&W 686 6" barrel w/ adjustable front and rear sights that I would appreciate if anyone might be able to tell me the approximate value. I bought this gun new in 1988, but it was rarely fired. I can't find any reference to this particular model in any reference guides, so I assume it was limited production. I was going to attach a picture, but couldn't get the attachment to work.
Thanks
Thanks

Instructions for posting photos can be found on a sticky near the top of the first page of this forum ----"Posting photographs".
Be sure to show the model number where it is stamped on the side of the frame, & the box end label.

EDIT: We only get about 10 responses, then the topic is locked. So, extend your answers by editing the original (or last post) by clicking on the icon that looks like a pencil & pad. Also, before hitting the POST key, hit the PREVIEW key; that will show you exactly what your post will look like. If it appears that your photos will be 1" square to you, that's how they will appear to us. Apparently you linked to "thumbnails", so try again.
EDIT: More like this Wischo special order gun:

I checked "The Standard Catalog of Smith Wesson". It's not clear which specific model/variation 686 has the adjustable front sight? They do note that the ones with the adjustable front sights are worth more money though.
If none of our folks can help on the matter of value, you might check with the guys on the S & W forum. Value would be enhanced if you have the original S & W box, accessories and paperwork.0 -
Thanks, I'm trying to get some pic's loaded for you guys. I do have the original box and manual. 0 -

The corner of the box is missing part of the sticker, but you can still see the last three digits of the serial number.
Thanks Neil, I appreciate the help and guidance in getting this together.

I was able to open up your photos from the thumbnails, but the resolution is very poor. All I could make out was that it's a Model 686-2. This engineering change was only made for a short period of time in the late 80's, according to TSCSW. 0 -
How do I get the pic's with better resolution? I uploaded them to Hunt101 like the sticky note says at the top of the forum. I started out with 3meg pic's on my hard drive and ended up with little thumbnails. I've seen other pic's on the forum that are large!?
Is there any info you need that will help? Yes, it is a -2.0 -
Perhaps meant for PPC so you can preset the sights for 7, 15, 25, and 50 yards. Or for Metallic Silhouette with its four sets of targets at different ranges. 0 -
PPC was the intent, but I moved(and got married) just shortly after purchasing the gun and never pursued it.
Neal, thanks for the info on the pictures, you were right, I tagged the thumbnail images so I went back and reloaded!
Thanks for the link to the Wischo Special too.0
