    No, if it was legally purchased without the need for a C&R license.

    For example: A sporterized German Mauser is not C&R eligible but a private purchase is legal. You do not need to enter it into your C&R book as it is not a collectible firearm by BATF definition. As you simply said "rifle", it's unclear whether or not it's a C&R firearm.

    Any C&R that you purchase while you have the C&R liscense must be loged in your book. Not sure how enforcable it is but I would not take the chance. Check the rules that came with your liscense or the BATF website.

    Unless you bought it from an FFL dealer and a Form 4473 was properly executed you have to enter all C&R acquisitions into your A&D book.
