Bbl. lenght vs powder
I have a question I can't quite figure out. IF reloading manual "A" says X grains of Y powder (slowest powder listed), in any given cartridge, (assume .308 Win.), gives the highest velocity in a 24" Bbl. BUT I am loading for a 20" Bbl., (same .308). TO achive maximum velocity out of the shorter Bbl., do I stay with the slowest powder (Y), or should I change to a faster powder given on the same table??? THX HAWKSHAW

Barrel length has a lot less effect on powder choice than the gunzines and internet would lead you to believe. Highest velocity with a short barrel will likely be with the same load giving highest velocity in a long barrel, assuming normal barrels like 20 vs 24 inches. 0
