Old Gibraltar 12 Ga

I have inherited an old single shot shotgun. It's has GIBRALTAR on one side and nothing on the other. It says 12 GA CHOKE on top of the barrel and there is a serial number on the bottom of it. That's it there are no other makings on it. It brakes open in half and has a pull back hammer on top of it. I can't find any info on it. Can you tell me what it is and what it's worth?

    Yep, I can tell you about your old shotgun. It's what is called or known as a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker for and was sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. These guns were made between 1900 and 1940. Shotguns with the name GIBRALTAR were made by one of two makers, Meridian Fire Arms Company of Meridian.CT or Stevens Arms & Tool Company of Chicoppe Falls. MA. They were made for and sold by Sears Roebuck & Co of Chicago,IL. Without a serial number there is no way to tell when your gun was made but if it was made by Meridian it was made between 1905 and 1915. If it was made by Stevens, it was made between 1915 and 1930. The way to tell the difference is to take a look at where the butt stock joins the metal frame. A Stevens made gun will have semi circular projections on the wood that fits into corresponding cutouts in the frame. A Meridian made gun will not have these. Value? Value will depend on the guns condition, the amount of original finish remaining on the metal and wood as well as the mechanical condition. A prime example that appears to have come out of the factory yesterday afternoon might bring as much as $150 while a rusty rotten incomplete piece of junk fit only for a tomato stake might bring $10 for parts salvage. Most of these old guns sell for $50 to $75 the various auction sites. I charge$3.00 for this information about old shotguns *$4.00 for correct information).
