bluing remover
I've been working on removing bluing on a rifle. it's an old winchester that I suspect was rust blued. I've tried the Birchwood Casey Rust/blue remover. Doesn't work that great. Also tried naval jelly. Works ok. The parts that have patina are just a bear to clean up. You folks have a suggestion for a better bluing remover?

plain phosphoic acid..get at auto parts that sell refinishing chemicals..i have had blue stripped to the white 0 -
Naval Jelly. Minimal elbow grease required. I know because I was trying to remove rust and the finish came off...easily. 0 -
...and the active ingredient in Naval Jelly? Phosphoric acid.
Naval jelly sure took the bluing off an old gun of mine pretty good. I like it better than the liquid acid as it is easier to control and doesn't run all over the place. Either the liquid or the jel should serve your purposes well.0 -
If you can find a store that sells auto painting supplies, you might find some stuff called "metal prep". That and a little four-ought steel wool will remove the best of bluing. 0 -

Thanks for the feed back guys! I'm going to try that phosphoric acid and some 0000 wool. Short of that it'll be the Naval Jelly.0 -
navel gel. Its like magic on blue. Any rust remover will work . 0 -

Blue Wonder bluing remover works well, so does their rust remover. I don't like their bluing though. 0
