Rigby rifle
Hello,
I picked up a rifle from a 92 year old man that had this rifle build in London in 1943 when he was a officer in the air corp. He said him and and another officer had rifles built by a single man about 70 years old in London. It has alot of Rigby style including engraving and gold inlay SAFE in the safety. This is the work of a master gunsmith and is fine as i have ever seen anywhere. He gave me alot of photos of the war and his P-38 squad along with his written account of how he found the man who built the rifle. He could not remember the smiths name and i would like to know if there are anybody that has knowledge of the Rigby co. and possible gumsmiths who would do this master work in London in 1943.
Thanks

Separate the receiver from the wood to check for markings.
The only way to have any hope to identify it is the post quality photos in hopes someone could identify it.0 -
Reads like the man was 'moonlighting' his work. I seriously doubt Rigby would be in the civilian arms business three years into the war.
Best case scenario: Rigby employee, retired, too old for call-up, and made the rifle at home.
You probably have a Rigby in all counts, except that Rigby officially didn't make it. The employee from Rigby made it.
Let's just hope the Rigby identification stamps were on the barrel/receiver when the employee decided to strike out on his own.
Let us see the markings from below the woodline, and any other markings anywhere on the gun. Thanks, Joe0
