Separate the receiver from the wood to check for markings.

The only way to have any hope to identify it is the post quality photos in hopes someone could identify it.

Reads like the man was 'moonlighting' his work. I seriously doubt Rigby would be in the civilian arms business three years into the war.

Best case scenario: Rigby employee, retired, too old for call-up, and made the rifle at home.

You probably have a Rigby in all counts, except that Rigby officially didn't make it. The employee from Rigby made it.

Let's just hope the Rigby identification stamps were on the barrel/receiver when the employee decided to strike out on his own.

Let us see the markings from below the woodline, and any other markings anywhere on the gun. Thanks, Joe
