Winchester 1897 value
I bought this old shotgun at auction recently I'm thinking of trying to reselling it at an upcoming gun show. Can anyone give me a idea of a fair price?
Winchester 1897 pump shotgun, with US and bomb stamped on right side in proper WWI location. Serial number would be correct for WWI issue. Solid frame not take down. Barrel is riot type, marked CYL but also has P stamp indicating a replacement barrel. Barrel is blue rest of metal work has parkerized finish on outside blueing on inside. Buttstock is non-matching WWII era. Supposedly a Vietnam bring back as it was when brought home.

I'll take a WAG and say it will bring bout 300.00 if bore is good and action is smoothe but tight..no hiccups.
If you mean selling it to a dealer, you won't get that, but you selling it,it should bring that.0 -
Well ok, Thanks for the reply. If it's a $300 gun I'll keep it to shoot. If I could have doubled my money on it I would take it to sell. I paid $325 plus tax and fees about $390 total. 0 -

30Remngton.....allow me to disagree. The Win 97 is one of the most desireable guns to have in a collection. Now, certainly this one is not, repeat, is not "collectors grade" by any stretch...but is worth far more than $300 IMHO. The metal looks ok and you say the stock is replaced. Win 97 Riots can bring anywhere from $400 to 2k+. You be the judge, but if she was mine it would not go out the door for any less than $700 even in this down market[:)][:D] 0 -
It is a piece parts gun, and the martial markings are most likely an attempt to falsely increase the value.
As long as the gun cycles and shoots properly, it should be worth what you paid for it... but I would not count on making very much on it in a resale.0 -
Thanks for all the replies. It appears I have a very much non- matching gun. Low end as far as value. I didn't mention earlier, but after the auction was over I tracked down the old guy selling it and he told a brief story on how he got it in Vietnam. Is it possible the old guy's story is true and this is arsenal rework. I would assume as old as it is, if it saw service as late as Vietnam it would have been rebuilt at least once or twice. Anyhow I'll probably keep it now, because I think it's a cool gun, and I have a cool story to go with it. Thanks again. 0 -

Vietnam,,,I doubt that...0 -
I too very much doubt that it saw service in Vietnam. In fact, I seriously doubt that it ever saw military service of any type. 0
