WORLD WAR II PISTOL, WHAT IS IT?
I have a item listed on GB with pictures, trying to find out what this pistol is. I ask, as a friend of mines father just died amonth ago. Their father brought this gun back from WWII when he came home. His sons (my friends) had never seen this or a few other items until recently, after his death. Their father told their mother to give it to the boys after he passed. He had many horrific memories of the war and simply did not speak about it. Now the sons want to know what this is. WOuld you please visit gunbroker item number 190716473, to vie the piece and give me your thoughts/views if you have any. Thank you, Kenny 217-662-2445.

Thanks for doing the link deal. I am not a computer wizard. I have had thousands of guns come across my hands, but this is the first one like this. I just want to help my friends during this time of grieving, etc. They were awfulproud of their father.

Never seen anything like it. It appears to be a home built low production type weapon. Many similar firearms were produced in various South Asian countries over the years. From a local metalworker or blacksmith type business. Since many were one of a kind type firearms made under the table for local resistance groups, the availability of ammo dictated the caliber. 0 -
It sort of looks like the very old Mauser Model 1877 pistol, or at least in it's basic outline. I am thinking that this is some sort of Belgian made copy of that Mauser design. 0 -
I've seen things like this. You didn't say what theater the vet was in, but if I had to guess, I'd say Pacific.
The frame assembly does look Dutch or Belgian and the East Indies had both. It could have been fabricated in the Phillipines too.
Definately homemade, probably resistance since if for hunting, it would have been a rifle or shotgun.
Determining what it shoots would go a long way figuring out what it is.0 -
My guess is an early German or Belgian flare pistol. 0 -
Yes, I am going to discuss the travels of their father during the war. I also plan on slugging the chamber, etc. Now the idea of a early flare gun is interesting, since the gun has no sights. Thanks to all. 0 -
DID this man serve in Pacific or Europe [?][?] Looks like made in Philippines. for some reason To me. 0 -
After you slug that chamber, compare it to the 7mm or 8mm Nambu jap pistol shell.[;)] 0 -

Flare guns do not have skinny barrels, and no factory made this thing.
Possibly hand made by Philippine guerrillas as suggested, chambered for Japanese round.0
