Winchester Pre 64 Super Grade Stocks
I have read Roger Rules book and Dean Whitakers. I may have missed it but I dont remember reading about Super Grade Stocks.
I know the differences between Pre War and later on Regular stocks. But did the Super Grades change from the 20 lines per inch like the other did after the War? Did they decrease in quality like the others did as they got closer to 64?
Thanks. Im thinking a Super Grade may be in the future so I would like to know all I can.

The Super grade model 70 is, as you already know the cream of the crop, and because no records were ever kept, they are often forged.
The Super grade went through all of the transitions that the standard grade did. Actually the checkering change came in late 1941 from 20 lpi's to 18 lpi's and the super grade was included in this change.
Page 167 of Rules book show the 3 variations in supergrade stocks. With a magnifying glass you can easily tell that the original (1936-54) small oval designed stock, has 20 lpi checkering.
But, since the supergrade was discontinued in 1960, It did not suffer the poor quality machine checkering that haunts the late pre-64 guns.0
