DOM S&W M&P 38 spc.?
Can anyone date this S&W M&P that I picked up today? SN#278xxx
This revolver has 4 screws on the right side, I've seen others with two or three, whats the difference? This thing is as tight as a bank vault.

Age would depend if there is a letter prefix, "C", before the serial number. If there is it would be a PRE Model 10 from the mid 50's. If not it would be a M & P Hand Ejector model from the W W I era.
These early revolvers were called "5 screw" because of the 4 in the side plate and the one in front of the trigger guard. S & W made a engineering change that did away with the "5 screw" in the late 50's.0 -

Your M&P would be from about 1916-17 era. It is a Model 1905, 4th. change. The serial number range for them runs, 241704-1,000,000- 1915-1942. 0 -
Thanks for the info guys thats what I was looking for. Is there any real collectable interest in these or are they just considered shooters? I know pics make all the difference, but this just looks like a 90 year old gun, brown patina with worn wooden grips. I've got a grand total of $130 invested in this revolver and an old Iver Johnson .22 revolver, package deal. 0
