Springfield 1873 trap door
Hi guys. I have a Springfield 1873 that I think is a reproduction rather than the real thing. It has a pistol grip and stock butt with plastic caps. It also has a cheek plate molded into the stock. The stock is wood, (lighter that walnut) but not sure what kind. I have not been able to find anything on the net about reproductions. Any idea who made these and where I might check it out ? Thanks.

H$ R made a set of the trapdoors. I think in the mid 80's. I usually am wrong. [8] 0 -
There have been a lot of real Springfields sporterized with new or altered stocks, too.
What are the markings on the gun?
What did you think you were getting?
Pictures would be a big help.0 -
Thanks for getting back to me. The markings are "US SPRINGFIELD" and "US Model 1873" or maybe 1878, not sure. I inherited it from father-in-law. Took pictures and will try to attach, but never done it before, so not sure if will work. [img][/img] quote:Originally posted by Hawk Carse

It sounds like a sporterized "Monte Carlo" stock. The barrel has probably also been cut but we really need pictures. You can't imbed pics here; you need to upload them. This thread will show you how:

By the way: It's 1873. The "3" is very tightly looped and often looks like an "8".0
