This is a link to one at Brownells. It's fits a standard 3/8 dovetail that pretty much every rifle fitted for iron sights comes with.

Unless you have super vision anything past 100 yds using this type of sight isn't easy.0 -
I'm only interested in the original rear sight.
The 3/8 inch slot is the correct size but there is a 10-32 screw hole about 1.5 inches to the rear of the slot where I believe an elevation disk was screwed in. Jack First, Numrich, and all the websites (i.e., {elsewhere}, gunbroker, ebay, etc.) I have tried don't have the original rear sight.

You, I'm sure know that Western Field was a Store Brand/Trade Name used by Montgomery Ward, back when they were still in business. Monkey Ward didn't make any firearms, they bought them from various gun manufacturers. My WAG is that the rifle who's rear sight your looking for was originality made by either Savage or Mossberg. Likely you will have better luck with the various gun part suppliers you mentioned previously, by trying to find a rear sight used on a Savage or Mossberg rifle rather then a Western Field. 0 -
spirits,
Your rifle was made in W. Germany by E. Heym. It is built on a commercial M98 Mauser action. Was imported & sold by Montgomery-Ward (a large catalog sales outlet) probably prior to 1968.
The fact that E-gunparts.com plus other popular parts outlets do not reference it by model # indicates that not a lot were made or sold.
I found the info. above listed in the cross reference list of www.hoosiergunworks.com
Maybe contact them with your fingers crossed!

I bought this rifle originally on gunbroker. It came with a broken grip stock which I repaired with a combination of two ton epoxy and acruglass. Then to make sure it stayed fixed, I glass bedded the recoil lug, tang, trigger guard, and relieved about 1/64" of the wood behind the tang. Dressed it up abit by jeweling the bolt, bolt stop/ejector flat spring, metal checkering the bolt release bump, refinishing the stock, and checkering the stock. Tested it and shot about two boxes of reloads through it - no problems. I know this rifle very well and its history. It even has a chromed lined bore, it is a large ring but intermediate length commercial Mauser 98 action (i.e., 7 5/8 inch between the receiver screws) and a trigger guard which has been lightened by several holes.
Lots of personal research has already been done on this rifle. (Notes: I have a collection of Gun Digests for each year from about 1954 to 2004 and have corresponded with Jack First, Numrich, and searched the internet.)
The rear sight does look like a Mossberg rear sight with its elevation dail/disk except for the 3/8 inch slotted piece. Jack First also noted that the rear sight may be similar to a Mossberg rear sight.

I was able to find a picture of the rear sight. Here's what it looks like on another rifle.
So does any one ever remember seeing a rear sight like this which was probably removed when a scope was mounted on a Western Field 720AEHM?

If the rifle is a Mossberg? Contact Vic Havlin he specializes in replacement spare parts for Mossberg firearms. He has written a book on the collecting of Mossbergs, and is a expert on them. GOOGLE his name using Mossberg as a qualifier, his site will come up at the top of the queue. 0 -
I have looked at a lot of Mossberg sights and have not seen one like this one. It may be unique to the Western Field Model 720AEHM. Since I now have a picture of the rear sight, I'll try the gun parts sources again.

Bolt looks all wrong for a mossberg. What's the Cal,, Mossberg only made a few.
Certainly not a 800 or 810... I don't think the RM7 had a bolt like that, but that's the one I have not seen... There are few running around and I have never seen one on gunbroker.
I didn't see the other fellows post but it certainly is a mauser type.. Might not be able to find an origianl. good luck.0
