Orion- info needed
Howdy Folks...
i'm interested in a spotter.. for range use specifically.
my range is 500yrds max. & seeing a .223 hole seems impossible thru my 36Xweaver scope... 400 is very iffy w/ light an heatwave condition
my question is about the Orion ulx 66mm ed zoom spotting scope ... is it up to the [.223 hole at 500] task ?
has anyone used or have pro & cons on this spotter... your input would be very helpful..
Thanks.. [:)]

Wow you are asking a lot most long range rifle shooting have target Pits that are manned and the person pulls the target and places a 3inch spotter in the bullet hole then puts the target back up .The only scope I can think that would even come close would be a 100MM UNERTL Team spotting scope. . Resolution along with power is the key. .223 hole at 500 yards . If my math is correct this is .04 of one degree of resolution. 0 -
I have not seen a spotting scope that would resolve .22s at 500, nor very well at 300. I have READ that a small good quality astronomical scope will find bullet holes farther out, but have not seen one in use. 0 -
Mr Gee,
If you are planning on acquiring something to suit your needs, then be prepared to spend well into the 4 digit, and possibly into the 5 digit range for something with enough power and resolution.

here ya go my friend, i have one of these, and believe it or not i can spot a tick in a deers ear at a half mile, not only the tick, but his poop as well.
quote:THE ULTIMATE ETX TELESCOPE
the ETX-125AT permits a much broader range of astronomical study. (or .22 cal. bullet holes at a half mile ) For the observer who is serious about astronomy, this telescope is a deeply satisfying instrument for a lifetime of astronomical study.
Price: $999*
you and your family will enjoy this scope for many years and other activities, like looking at the Moon kids go crazy when seeing the Moon up close for the very first time, you too will be surprized at how you can see .22 cal. bullet holes out to 1,000 yds. and beyond.0 -
Thanks for all the comments an replies...[:)] i think i have possibly asked for the impossible...
the closet thing i've kinda found was a Ziess [<spelling] 100mm with a fix power eye piece at Waaaaaaay to mu$h then i can steel... [house hold money].
USN.. that too Kooool
tsr... some one pointed me to an artical on 6BR. personal test on real targets.. very interesting at that
Hawk... i can see holes w/ 36X weaver well at 300, faintly in good conditions at 400 "sometimes"
Perry "you said all"....
i've wanted a spotter forever an thought this would be a good excuse to get one, But looking at what is not will/will not work i may hang for a used something along the way...
i'll keep looking an hoping..[;)]0
