Go with the series 70 .Just my $.02 this pistol will be able to shoot any load if you match the Recoil spring to the load you want to use.

thanks, i dont care about swapping springs, i know the 70 is set up for weak loads
anything to look out for to make sure a used 70 is not abused (shot without a heavier spring)
oh, and not that it matters but i want a blued one.

Hello If you know what to look for look at the frame and recoil spring guide you don't want to see any Peening /battering where these two parts contact each other. You really should not shy away from the changing of recoil springs. After practice on how to dismount the slide without Removing recoil spring plug or even turning the barrel bushing. You will be able to change spring in less then 15 Seconds. I have over 300,000 rounds through one of my model 70's . It is all in matching load to spring. I have over 200,000 on the same recoil spring and only changed to this spring from the original one because I changed the load. Good quality springs dont wear out or get weak unless you over stress them. . Also look and make sure the pin that holds the rear sight together is not bent or broken. The pin goes cross-ways at the very front holds the sight to the flat top rib along top of slide.

No ProblemI just wanted to get a point across that it was easy to swap springs . Some people run lighter Target loads as Well as +P+ loads on the same pistol This is fine and will not hurt the pistol if the springs are changed at the same time . The Pre series 70 Gold Cups had lightning cuts in the slide and This made the slide really slam into the frame with anything but Target loads . This started confusion on shooters parts when the series 70 went back to a standard weight slide with out the cuts. I picked up a used Trophy in stainless for less than $800 out the door. I couldn't pass it up at that price (a bit of an understatement).

It, so far, has digested without a hiccup any and all 45 ACP loads I have tried to ram down its gullet including FMJ, Hydrashocks and 200 gn SWCs. I haven't done anything to the pistol other than change the grips.

I think you'll be happy with either Colt.

    Just my two cents.
