To search completed auctions, you have to log in as having a account on the auction. Unless they have changed their requirements with the latest upgrades?

Yes. Login required over at the auctions to view completed (or timed out) sales.

Now, to avoid the timed out auction, over on the right side of the same page you have been directed to in the prior post, and under 'search by' select 'highest number of bids first'. Best, Joe

    Nope, this is correct behavior.

Log in from front page, go to search, and it should be there.

If it is not there and you have logged in for sure, then you are getting an old snippit out of your browsers cache for the select list. Press shift and click reload in Firefox (or ctrl+refresh in IE) while on the search page should force getting a new copy from the server, unless there is other caching up stream of you...
