Two types of factory paperwork on this gun:
1. Original issued factory registration letter-came with the revolver.
2. S&W factory archive letter (available for any S&W firearm).
Item no. 2 can be purchased at anytime. Item no. 1 is the true gem. If you have the original registration letter, then it will absolutely pique collector's interest.
And, if the prospective buyer agrees with your condition assessment, the gun can sell, to the right buyer, as high as $4,500.00.
Lookup on the net noconeetrader.com. Notice the sold prices on some of his registered magnums.
He deals in high-end S&W collectible revolvers.
Also note, if you will, his auction photos on Gunbroker. The description of the percent value that he lists is in total agreement with the percentage rating that serious collectors use. Good luck! Joe0 -
My SW 357 Magnum has "REG. 1XXX" in the yoke area also. My understanding was that the original buyer would have actually had to apply for a registration letter, it was not automatically included at time of purchase. 0 -

That is true...When applied for, the certificate was mailed to the owner rolled up in a cardboard tube.... That tube adds a bunch in value too...
