Colt Ace Value & Date ??
I have this ACE since about 1990, in box, no docs, fired maybe 100 or less rounds. Box is marked Model 01974 with s/n 70B50xxx, same as gun. Looks absolutely new with no scratches, rub marks, etc. I never shot it much because it would malfunction about one round per mag. I cleaned the floating chamber, etc without improvement. Didn't experiment with different ammo. Wondering if the 01974 indicates mfg date and what it might be worth. Any info, comments, etc appreciated.
Rather than mess up this aNIB gun I built myself one on a cheap import frame and a Ceiner kit.

Hello MOST but not all Modern "after WW II " complete SERVICE ACE pistols took over as a continuation of the original pre-war guns and had a serial No of SM14001 & up however in 1980 all this changed and the Service model ACE could have serial numbers of "SM" "B70" "70B" so your pistol was not made until at least 1980. I would say without seeing the pistol and the box Value somewhere in the $1500.00 -$2000.00 price range . if you do a SMART SEARCH on this item and you can see what they have been selling for on this AUCTION site.

Thanks perry that's all I need to know. I bought it out of an estate about 20 years ago for $400. Could have got another one plus a couple Colt .22 revolvers at the same time in same condition. One of life's unexplainable regret is things I didn't buy. 0 -
My serial number reference book indicates possible 1983-1984. It says the numbers are not available for those years. The 1985 series starting with 70B is 70B56416, plus three other series' of numbers. 0
