    According to the limited write-up in Stroebel's scope book. C.P. Goerz was making scopes prior to and during the First World War. If it can be established yours was used on one of the early German 98 Sniper rifles, it would be a really big buck item.

    Does your scope have any other markings besides the ones you've noted.

    German W W I inspector markings consisted of a "Fraktur", (old German script letter), underneath a crown. If your scope has such a military acceptance marking, it's value would be increased substantially.

    There is a symbol on the bell....looks like 2 letters overtop each other...can't tell what they are.

    H. Barella is listed in my reference as being firearms maker to the royal court of the Kaiser, besides other European royalty in the pre W W I era. Not likely that this would be a military sniper scope because of this marking. But this marking would increase the scopes value to a Germany collector substantially. Because it would date the scope to the pre W W I German imperial era.
