SCOPE BASE FOR 1891 ARGENTINE
I've a sporterized 1891 Argentine in original caliber. The receiver is original and has been drilled & tapped 6/48 with holes 1/2 inch o.c. on the front & rear of rcvr. Stopped off to see Gunsmith & get bases. He said the front holes should be spaced further apart. The Weaver bases he showed me appear that the holes are further apart on the front base. He felt someone "did their own thing" on this. The bolt has been altered and the barrel shortened to 24 inch. I'd like to get something that will work for me. Any suggestions?[8]

You have two options.
1), If possible have the receiver drilled for standard scope base disregarding if possible the holes already drilled.
2), I believe Brownells sells blank bases. If you can get one that will work, have the gunsmith drill it to match the already existing holes.0 -
you may have to do a little mix & match to see what the original gunsmith (?) was trying to do. standard weaver bases would be a # 45 & 55 with the #55 haveing the 1/2" hole spacing. or use the #45 for the front and drill one additional hole for it. 0 -

That's what I'd do.
