Used 1187 Question
My buddy has an extra gun to sell and I happen to be out of a duck gun. His 1187 can be had for $100. It seems like a good deal.
My question is regarding reliability. I know he has had some issues with a little part (attached below) that keeps breaking. Now, his gunsmith tells him that it breaks because he uses 3 1/2" sells - exclusively. My question is, do any of you have any experience with this issue and will it resolve itself since I only use 3" shells?
I guess his gunsmith said the gun can "hold" the large shells but is not actually built to shoot them. Anyway, here's the part that keeps breaking:

Heck, my 1100 trap gun will break a link every now and then with light target loads. I think it just the weak link in the action. 0 -
Great price for an 11-87. Is this a Super Magnum model?? If not, it is chambered for 3 inch shells. In 35 years of shooting trap, skeet, ducks and deer with an 1100 I have not broken any parts. 0 -
Yes, it is a magnum but I'll be shooting only 3" shells. 0 -
I've been shooting my 1187 for 16yrs and have only broken the "o" rings, nothing else. You should buy the one from your buddy. 0 -
You are killing me....100 dollars "seems" like a good deal/[B)]..wth,,are you buying the buttstock?.........Gee, I don't know,,100 dollars for an 1187.[?] 0 -
I think what they are saying above is: The barrel and parts are worth twice the amount he is asking, BUY IT NOW, before he finds the true value. OR send me his email address and I'll get rid of this for him right now.
While I shoot O/U's, many of my friends use 1187's and they are one of the most versatile guns made, and with a great track record. Buy the gun and have it repaired, do it now!!
Best of luck0 -
