The gun is of course a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker for and was sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. I have compiled a listing of over 860 names that were used between 1890 and 1940 and KING BEE is not among them (more about that in a moment). I have names like King Hardware Co, King Nitro, King Nitro Double and Kingsland Gun Co but no King Bee. The gun in the photograph was made by the Stevens Arms & Tool Company. I can tell that b the shape of the frame where the butt stock joins. There are semicircular cutouts in the metal that accept like projections in the wood stock. The fact that the name doesn't show up is no surprise. There were hundreds of names used and not all of them were ever recorded. I find at least one new (?) unknown name a month. This is the second one for September. It is now included in my lists. Who the gun was made for and when I haven't the faintest. 0 -
thanks for the info Ned.when i first saw it from a distance i thought it was a Stevens, then i picked it up and it said king bee so i didn't buy it.then 3 weeks later the guy at the flea market still had it(marked down form last time i saw it)so i grabbed it.a friend of mine has 2 Stevens single shots one is complete and the other has no guts to it.so hopefully we can take this and his Stevens and make a working gun. again thanks for your info.the other piece in the pic has no marking at all,it looks to be an old rabbit ear side by side 0
