century L1A1 or...?
I picked up a Century L1A1 in 2004. For a myriad of reasons it was a safe queen until 3 months ago.
Took it to the range and it would fire a round then fail to cycle. Not only that but it would lock up so tight you had to ground the butt and lean on the charging handle to cycle it. 2 frustrating months later, using the wonderful Internet I found out the problem. First the feed ramps were VERY sharp...a little emery cloth ver judiciously applied fixed part of the problem. I don't know what they parkerized it with but it is tough! The next problem was the famous "no gas block pin" that Century had been known to do. Fixed that. Took it back to the range and adjusted the gas system (after outting the gas regulator back on right) using 5 rounds in my mags. Worked like a Swiss clock
Ah...but then I channeled the Century gremlins.
If you load any mag past about 12 rounds it will fire the first two or three then the mag will 'twitch' and move down and forward abbot a 1/16" !?!? When you first pu the mag in it clicks in place and is tight...not monkey tight but 'correctly installed' tight. I am thinking that my supposedly metric receiver is inch. It has the folding charging handle, the dust cover cuts, and open wing front site, but not the larger cut under the lower receiver for inch mags (has the u-shaped metric cut). My included mags were NOS metric mags. If you hold it by the mag (like using an AR) and apply rearward pressure it will bang thru the whole clip...suggestions?
Also, don't know if this is germane but...
No matter how much I turn down the gas the ejected rounds have damaged necks. It is also hammering the side of the receiver on the way past (about where the AR has the shell deflector). Probably related...right?
And here's me shooting it to satisfy the "no picture not happening crowd"
Thanks in advance...Jay

Just curious, but do you always jam the mag into the "combat"pillow as shown, or do you ever let the mag have free clearance on all sides? 0 -
Just sounds like an average CIA FAL to me.
My advice is to take it to a smith and let him sort it out, if he can.0 -
Check and make sure you're using the right mags.
If the front of your magwell has a deep groove cut in it, then you will have poor results using metric mags, which do not have a nice big block brazed to the front of them like L1A1 mags do.
Your gas problem was fixed, sounds like.
Get rid of that stupid brake, it'll be much quieter.0 -
L1A1 opened during the shooting same way as when you disassembling rifle. Anybody with similar experience? Just wondering if there is defective part or I just accidentally moved disassembly lever. Your opinion is appreciated. 0 -

Make sure lever is in locked position... if it happens again, then replace.0
