Charter Arms .32 Revolver convert to .32 H&R ?
I have a late 1960's vintage Charter Arms Undercoverette in .32 S&W long. In 90% shape. It was my great granddads.
I have heard you can have a smith upgrade them to the new H&R magnum round. True?
If so, is it worth it? How much?
Granddad was a shooter and wouldn't mind the upgrade, as long as it was used. I did manage to get two boxes of wadcutter from cheaperthandirt and the gun shot flawlessly. The 2" barrel means it is a short range weapon but in this caliber that's acceptable.
Thanks in advance...

There was a gunsmith, since deceased, who would rechamber a Colt Detective Special from .32 Colt New Police to .32 H&R and I think he would do late model S&W .32 Hand Ejectors. So the Charter would probably stand it, if you can find somebody to do the work. Maximum chamber pressure is 21,000 cup which is not much over .38 Special +P in a thicker cylinder wall. Some shops might consider it an off brand and turn it down, though. 0 -
It's a short range weapon only if you don't shoot it at longer ranges. Barrel length has little to do with accuracy.
The Charter should be fine in H&R mag. I believe they make the gun in the magnum round now-not sure.0 -
I have a 4' Charter Arms .32 Mag. with adjustable sights, one of my favorites. [^] 0 -
Just a note to clarify. The 32H&R Mag has been around for some time. There is a NEW round based on the 32H&R called the .327MAG. Just wanted to make sure this isn't the NEW round your are speaking of since it is a longer and more powerful round than the 32Mag. 0 -
No, poor choice of words. I did indeed mean the H&R magnum. I know you couldn't do the .327 conversion.
Ok..will give some local smiths a call next week.
Thanks
