39A reblueing?
Does reblueing deminish or increase the value to a 39A or does it make any difference at all? I currently have 4 of them and the newest(1983 model) has the blueing almost gone on the barrell. I was thinking of selling it and was wondering if I should attempt to reblue it first? Looking for some advise from those that would know.
Thanks

Rebluing always lowers the value on most firearms.
It depends if they are collectors items or not.
The cost of a reblue, by a good gunsmith might make the price over what the gun is worth.0 -

Refinishes generally only DECREASE the value of COLLECTOR'S guns, since collectors prize original condition.
In your case, a 1983 Marlin 39 isn't really a collectors gun, so that doesn't apply.
Still, the cost of the having the gun professionally refinished will almost certainly cost more than any increase in the final value of the gun.
In other words, you'll spend $150-200 on a reblue that will only increase the value of the gun by maybe $50. While there can be (rare) exceptions to this general principle, I don't think a common and relatively desirable gun like a 39A is one of them.
If you want to sell the gun, the most cost-effective thing to do is to let the new buyer decide for him or herself whether or not to have it refinished, then shoulder those costs.0 -
You may be better off doing some touching up... 0 -
Best to let the new owner decide what to do about it... 0 -
Thanks for the feed back. Now I am curious as to how you would "touch up blueing"? I probably will sell "as is", now off to the auction side. OH! is it true that Marlin is closing their doors next year and the 39A will no longer be manufactured? 0
