Gun Safe Lighting

I am getting ready to buy a Liberty gun safe and would like to add a LED
light kit to it myself. The kit has no switch to turn it on and off when the door opens and shuts. Can anyone suggest a switch to use and a little help on how to install the switch?

    I'm assuming that your light kit has an electrical plug at the end; if this is something that requires components to be assembled, you'd better post a photo.

    I would think the easiest way to install a switch is to plug your light kit into a power strip with a toggle switch, just like you use for your computer. Mount the power strip outside your safe, & use the toggle switch to turn the light on & off.

    I understand the want of a light that comes on when you open the safe.

    Why not just buy a couple of battery powered "tap" lights? No wiring needed and with LED's should only need to change batteries once a year.

    I got a 2 pack of battery opperated tap on/off lights from Lowes for $25. One on the roof and one under the top shelf and they work great. And tehy work when the electricity is out.

    If you must wire one in with a pressure switch I would go to an appliance repair shop and get one for a refrigerator.

    Rig a old light left over from something. Screw it in when you need it. Most times your in there you wont need it on...

    I purchased a light kit from a local safe supplier. It has a number of small fluorescent tubes daisy chained together and it included a switch. Took about an hour to install it and was a great improvement to the safe.

    Check with your local safe supplier.

    I picked up a 10' rope light from home depot (they come in various lengths). It comes with a bag of hanger clips and small screws. They screw right into the felt/cloth on the inside and hold firmly. I ran the rope all the way around the inside front frame (around the door). When you click it on, the entire safe is illuminated. Since the light is in the front and shines back, it illuminates every shelf uniformly. It works great. I used one of the small bolt/anchor holes in the bottom back of the safe to feed through the electric cord. I did have to cut off the plug to feed the wire through the hole and then just reattached it after. You can work it to have the on-off switch on the inside of the safe or the outside (I put mine on the outside). Ive don't three others for family and friends after they saw it.

    Another idea, most electric dehumidifiers are simply a heater which raises the temp thus the dew point inside the safe. Why not just put a small incandecent light inside that is always on? Then, it would effectively replace the dehumidifier and the light is always ready when you need it.

    IKEA has a linked set of three bars with LEDs that you can attach and run down a back corner of your safe. I think they run about $10.
