I friend at work gave me his 30-30 to look at, he said it was hard to load and jamming. just got home with it and I am sure of the problem but not sure of the correct names for the parts so bear with me. when you work the lever the shell lifter is hitting the loading door/gate and will not let the bolt go all the way to the rear. The loading gate/door is set back in from the receiver roughly 1/8 inch, which doesn't look right.
I am sure it is either bent or something is stuck between the receiver and the door/gate, is the screw right behind the loading door/gate the one that holds it in and do I need to take the loading tube and forearm off, or can I remove the lever and look up from the bottom?

    Pull the lever and the part that it goes into. The loading spring might be broke. Check the screw first to see if it came loose.

    DCS don't know why I didn't think of that first, screw made about a half turn and the gate popped in place nother 1/2 turn to tighten, thanks. going to johnstown?

    The lever is easy to remove, simply unscrew the single screw on which it pivots on the frame. Do this with the lever fully open. The ejector is located on the left wall of the receiver and is "sort of" pined in place, be careful it doesn't drop out but if it does just reseat.

    The loading gate is powered by a fairly stiff spring and held in place with the screw. I suppose the spring could get lazy or the screw backed out a bit. I don't think the rifle can be reassembled and "sort of" function if the lever, bolt and loading lever are not configured correctly. When I reassemble mine I just sort of jiggle the lever a bit until it inserts correctly then reseat the screw and cycle away.

    You may want to pull out the lever, lifter, bolt & ejector and scrutinize the gate on its own.

    I see a lot of that problem. The loading gate screw will loosen up allowing the loading gate to move around jamming the lifter. Only solution is to periodacly check the screw to insure it is tight.
