deluxe 64 Winchester

Is a deluxe model 64 Winchester distinguished only by the checkered stock, or are there other features that aren't on the standard model

    The Model 64 Deer Rifle (Deluxe) has a capped pistol grip and it has a different shape to it, and it also has factory sling swivels. The walnut stocks are a slightly better grade of wood.

    Thanks Bert for the reply, it appears the 64 I,m referring to is a deluxe model(haven't seen it yet)
    In my research I find most are drilled for receiver sights,two small filler screws about 1/2" apart just ahead of the hammer on the left side, but I did find one that was not, auction # 188876182.
    Safe to say these are factory taps? Do they hurt the value?

    When Winchester introduced the Model 64 in Janaury of 1933, the receivers were not drilled & tapped for a receiver mounted peep sight. In 1934, Lyman introduced the No. 56 sight and at the same time, Winchester began drilling & tapping the Model 64 for that sight. From 1934 through 1957, nearly all Model 64s were drilled & tapped for a receiver sight, with the exception being those that were intentionally chambered for the 219 Zipper, which was standard with a No. 98A bolt-peep sight.

    In answer to your question, No, the factory drilled & tapped holes do not hurt the value.

    The Model 64 in the auction you mentioned is a 1933 vintage Sporting Rifle (rough condition).

    When you do get to see the rifle, please let me know what it is, and the serial number (so that I can add it to my survey).

    Hello Bert, Thanks once again for your valuable information. In return I will pass along some data for your research.
    I ended up with a model 64 deluxe rifle, ser # 1090085, type 6 tang,-30 W.C.F.- checkered metal butt plate w/widows peak,proof steel barrel, and surprisingly NOT drilled for receiver sight.
