WWI bayonet

Hey everyone. A friend of mine emailed me regarding the value of a bayonet but I am not quite sure what to tell him as that is not my area of expertise. The message is as follows:

"Hey man, I seem to remember u saying u were into this kind of thing... I have a bayonette made by Remington from the first world war. It is stamped Remington U.S. and the date 1917, looks like it was heavily used and has a wooden handle... any idea what its worth?"

I don't have a picture of said bayonet but was wondering if anyone had any idea what this might be worth? Thanks in advance.

    As far as collectors are concerned the term "heavily used" isn't a positive statement as far as value is concerned.

    Without quality photos there is little guidance we can offer you regarding value.

    Is the release button [that would unlock it from the rifle it's on] located on the side, or on the bottom?

    If on the side, $0-$20 at any length. If on the bottom, $30-$75 (if it's of a full eighteen inch blade-not cut down).

    Sidenote: We are seeing what is refered to as 'heavily used' through someone elses eyes. Best, Joe
