The Westerner, and the Westerner-Alaskan (.300) are both "sub-styles" of the standard rifle. The Westerner was no different than the standard rifle with 26" bbl exept it was marked "westerner" and marketed seperatly.

The Westerner alaskan was same as standard but with recoil pad and 24" barrel

I am pretty sure just the box and the hang tag were marked "Westerner". It was strickly a marketing "trick".

I have 2 pre 64 model 70s in 264 as we speak, neither of them has "Westerner" on the barrel. It was a marketing tool, and nothing more.
