Winchester 70 Reciever Sight

I have a Pre 64 Model 70 that I wanted to use a reciever sight on. I have tried a Redfield and an Old Lyman not the oldest style. I can get them to go down far enough to sight the the gun in. I know the older style sights required cutting the stock. I didnt think that was the case on the newer ones? Any thoughts

  You just need a higher front sight.

  How do you remove the front sights. I understand there is a tool. What do I ask for?

  "I understand there is a tool. " there are commercial 'sight pushers', you can also use a bench block, brass drift, and hammer.

  If your not set up to do this yourself...Take it to a gunsmith that is ! !
