attention ordnance experts mystery fuze
Can any of you ordnance collectors help me identify this fuze. No markings and mostly brass insides. Obviously a cutaway training aid. Came with some jap ordnance i will be listing soon.Measures 8 inches long . Does not move anymore.Thank you.[img][/img]

It appears to be a long delay aerial bomb tail fuze. I can't really see the pictures that well, but do you notice what may be gearing for a clock mechanism?
These would have been used for runway denial.0 -

When you want to take out a runway, in addition to instantanious bomb blast, you seed it with delayed bombs set to go off at various times.
This hazards the repair crews as you might guess. They never know if it's a dud, or a delayed weapon just about to go off. If you wipe out a crew or two, even better. The goal is to keep the runway out of commission and use by an enemy hence "runway denial".0 -
