older browning lightning

I have an older Browning 20 ga. O/U "Lightning" and would like to get an idea of how old it is. (SN 22111) I would never sell it, because it belonged to my dad, but a ballpark estimate of the worth would be nice to know, for insurance purposes. Well-used condition, but still works great.

  Manufactured about 1961. Similar guns have sold recently between $1500 and $2800 depending greatly on condition ("well-used" is pretty general without pictures). Barrel length,stock (straight or round-knob) and choke combination are also factors.

  I have a 20 guage Lightning in the 16,000 range (1956 manufacture date). I am in the same boat, as I would not part with mine either. It was pass down from my father-in-laws estate and I was the fortunate recipient.
  The value estimates stated above are accurate, but condition is everything. Has the buttstock had a recoil pad installed? If so, it detracts from the value. The underside of the receiver is a "typical" location where it would have been carried. Is the blueing worn? Honest wear will allow for the underside of the receiver to be worn a bit, possible dings & nicks on both the blueing and stocks. If in this condition, you are probably looking at about an 80 - 85% gun. That would probably put you at abouyt the 2K (possibly more) mark.
