Wards Shotgun i put on auction side-who made it?

I just listed this on the auction side. Anyone know who actually made it? It is marked Wards of course, but i know they did not make guns. Also, any idea as to when? I'm thinking it was in the 20's or 30's by the looks of it.

    My guess is savage or stevens.. you have a number or model? Then you can just look it up on numrich's cross reference.

    Guess is incorrect on both accounts. Assuming the gun is a break open breech loader it was made by one of two makers Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works or Stevens Arms & Tool Company. To tell the difference examine the butt stock where it joins the receiver frame, The Stevens made gun will have two semi circular projections on the wood (one on each side) that fit into corresponding cutouts in the frame. The Iver Johnson will have straight wood that fits flush with the receiver frame.

    Since that is not a Marlin Model 55 in the picture, and using the process of elimination, I eliminated Savage, Stevens, Marlin, and Noble, so the lone man standing is MOSSBERG. It does resemble some of their older shotguns I have seen.

    It is actually one of their 75, 75A, or 75B models, made from 1933-1940, per Blue Book.

    You are very welcome. That is what we, or some of us pride ourselves on, is to provide up to snuff information, for those who ask. It took some looking, but with the help of SPIDEY's cross over chart, I was able to use the process of elimination to Git-r-done!

    You're welcome. I thought it was a Mossberg when I first saw it as I had one like it many moons ago but I didn't want to post any misinformation. I'm glad you were able to narrow it down. [:)]

    Sometimes those damn bolt shotguns escape me. Thats an early bolt and didn't quite look like it's cousins. My love started with 500's and then to the 22's still brushing up on the utility bolt shotgun.
