Cooper Rifles

Does anyone know for sure, at what distance the factory shoots their test targets. I've heard several things, and don't know what to believe. Do they make their own bbl's.? THX HAWKSHAW

    I'm going to buy a Cooper rifle - Varmint model, no "Buick" cuts and probably centerfire 22 single shot. Does anyone have experience with the Coopers and can advise good or bad about them?

    Cooper's test targets, used to be at 50 yards, but their rifles are gauranteed to shoot 1/2" or better at 100 yards. That said, I have a Model 38 Montana Varminter, in 17 Fireball, and it is one of the most accurate rifles I own. It is hands down, the most accurate factory rifle I own. I have duplicated the test target results at 100 yards. It is so accurate, that I can tape a penny on the 100 yard target board, and tell you where on the head I am going to hit Abe.

    I am not sure about their barrels, but I don't believe they make their own at this time.

    I have 3 signed test targets from Cooper. They all say 3 shot group with 36X Leupold scope. I read where these are 50 yds indoors. In all my Cooper targets 3 shots are in one hole. My Coopers all shoot sub 1/2 MOA with good handloads.

    Owner of 5 cooper rifles. Have been to factory several times. I would say, based on paces, that their sighting in range is approx.44 yards. The barrels are made my Wilson , who nows owns Cooper. All of mine will shoot less than 1/2" at 100 yards.

    I've seen their displays at quite a few gun shows to include the targets next to each gun, don't recall if the target lists distance but since folks are asking I'll presume not. I'd wonder why Cooper provides a target for such a short distance with respect to center fire rifles? I know it does appear impressive to show a target of .25" @ 50 yards, but .5" at 100 yds would do a darn good job of impressing me too. They build beautiful, accurate rifles - just seems a touch unusual to target them at 50 yds.

    I believe Cooper test fires all their firearms before they are offered for sale so THEY know they will shoot well. If they don't, they are sent back to the shop. How many do you think Winchester, Remington etc. test before sale ? Cooper also shoots and provides test targets after recall or warranty work. It takes a lot of time and work to scope, sight and shoot every gun to provide signed, dated and serial numbers on each target.

    The barrels are made by Wilson Barrels. The test range is 50 yards.

    I thought the sight in by Cooper was at 100 yards but perhaps 50 is correct. Either way, my Model 22 in 7mm-08 will consistently shoot .4 and smaller MOA groups at 100 and with the 36X scope Cooper claims they use I expect it would do better. . .not to mention a steadier hand would help too. I can't duplicate (yet) the "one hole" group of the test target but it is plenty good for me.

    I have to say that the Cooper rifles that I own and shoot are the most accurate "factory" rifles that I have had the pleasure of shooting,and I would also add that there customer service is second to none.
