Hollis Shotgun info needed

I have an engraved Alfred Hollis double barrel hammer shotgun serial 9249, 10 gauge, walnut stock, Marked on top rib" Alfred Hollis London Fine Damascus" Crossed staff proofs stamped 6 times. Also stamped with an umbrella over "I". Stamped "L" twice. In a triangle "Patent No 2323" and triangle "Patent No 3718 1877". Circle enclosing "P". "W" and "J".
Any info and value in average condition would be appreciated.

    I can find no listing for an Alfred Hollis as a British gunmaker. There was an A. Hollis & Sons at 28 Victoria Steet, London, and A. Hollis and Co. in Mincing Lane. The two may be the same, in business in 1897 and gone by 1925, perhaps a decade or more earlier. That said, it would be worth a look at the water table for an ELG inside an oval.

    Given that it is a damascus barreled shotgun and would have shot a black powder shell of a size differing from the shells of today, there is likely to be little demand, particularly outside Britian. Unfortunately old does not confir value, demand does and there is little demand for old shotguns in the US except as decorative items. Wall hangers rarely bring above $150-$200.

    Certainly a gun that needs further study. "Patent No 3718 1877" refers to C. G. Bonehill's patented breech loader improvements.

    A quick check of my reference book says that Alfred Hollis was an English gun maker from 1895 to 1900 (not very long for any gun maker). I have another book that may have more information. I'll look it up later this afternoon.

    O.K. got time to look up the name. Not much more information. Reference says" Alfred B. Hollis & Co. Gun maker located at Duncaster House, Mincing Lane and 153 Minorities, London, England (don't you just love those English addresses?) from 1897 to 1900. The firm made doubles marked THE ACME". There are listing for other firms with the name Hollis like Charles Hollis & Sons, Hollis, Bentley & Playfair, LTD and Issac Hollis & Sons all English gun makers
