Vintage Shotgun ?

Looking for info on A+M Arms Boston, Ma. Gun was made in the 1870s. Double barrel, hammers, damascus and breach swivels to the slide. I don't have any reference material on this gun and it is not mentioned in Flaydermans. Any info is appreciated. Were they good quality and is there any collector linterest.

    There was an American Arms Co. in Boston that made a hammer double with barrels that swiveled to the side instead of the usual break open type. Flayderman mentions it but no picture or values. Here's a bit from a shotgun message board:

    "American Arms Co was formed about 1870 by George Henry Fox of Boston. Mr. Fox worked at American Nut and Arms Co. to produce nuts and Wheeler's patented revolvers prior to forming his company, American Arms Co. He continued to produce pistols and shotguns and introduced a side swinging double barreled shotguns (around 1870) until 1873, when the company went out of business, but was reorganized in 1877. Later on, the company produced shotguns under A. E. Whitmores 1888 patent, and still later on, the company established a factory at Bluffton, Alabama. The factory was actually part of a land promotional deal organized by eastern investors to promote tourist and industry trade. Mr. Fox's involvement was transistory, and the whole scheme soon collapsed. Fox continued to make guns until his death in 1901. Some have stated that Fox also opened a factory in Milwaukee in 1893, but researchers say he did not. There is a picture of the side-swing model double barrel in Side by Sides of the World for Y2K."

    Thanks hrf that sounds just like the gun. I will see it this weekend. He says it is in very good condition with excellent bores. Is there any collector interest in these.

    Yes, they are are well made and have quite a following. Impossible to evaluate without pictures.
