Colt Model 1911 in 38 Super ***PICTURES POSTED***

I found a Colt Government model in a local store today with a four digit (2308) serial number. It's in .38 Super caliber and is an honest 80 % condition. It has a period Audley holster and a correct two-tone magazine. It looks totally correct, without disassembly. The finish is wearing only on the muzzle where it's been holstered, in fact to the point where the rear sight has left a permanent mark on the inside of the holster. The hammer and trigger are very "crisp" to the touch as though it's had little firing. The grips are wooden with checkering and the left grip has a worn spot where it's sat in the holster. The checkering is still on that spot, just slightly worn in comparison to the other parts of the grip. Also, the holster has a permanent "checkered" spot where this grip has been inside it.

What would the value be on this particular item, without the luxury of pictures? I found one just like this on the auction side that recently sold for $4,500.00, but the condition was stated as 98% but may have been a little less. Would this be a first year production? I would think so, but I never suggested to be an "authority" on 1911's.

    DOM, 1929, first year. 80% is kind of iffy as far as collectors are concerned though. Although some would grab it to have it professionally restored.

    Even a original Audley holster is worth good money nowadays. I picked up one that they made for a Luger at a show years ago for peanuts, sure wish i held on to it.

    If you can latch on to the rig for under $1000, I would grab it.

    I know the feeling. I had an Audley holster for the Colt 1903 a few years back and wish I had not let it go either. I doubt I can pick this pistol up for the 1K mark, but if it sits there long enough.....who knows.

    The Pre War 38 super is a highly sort after pistol IF it is in original finish "NO REBLUE" You did not say what price it was marked But at $1000.00 you better be there when the doors open even if you have to take a days vacation.

    Sweet Your gun shop treated you very well I always amazes me at the gun-shop owners .That are in the business but have no interest in Collector guns and their values . I am just jealous that dealers near me never get anything Good.

    The asking price is 1,800.00. A bit more than I would be willing to spend for that model. I would love to have it, but I think I'd be in the hole.
