Remington model 41

I had a question put to me that I can't answer but I know one of you guy's will know. A friend asked me does a Remington model 41 .22 single shot cock on opening of the bolt or is it meant to be cocked manually by the cocking piece on the end of the bolt? Thanks for any info. Terrill.
