Smith &Wesson Model 17
I just bought a Model 17-3 K22 Masterpiece with the target trigger. It came in the original box, had the wrapping paper around it, and looks like new. I was told it had 2 boxes of shells shot through it. It has a six inch barrel. I checked the auctions and blue book and cant come up with a definate price to determine if I got a deal or not. What would this gun sell for? I grabbed it on a whim and hope I did alright. Thanks for your input.

The serial number would help. Early 17's would be worth more then the ones during and after the Bangor Punta era. 0 -
I agree with rufe-snow regarding the Bangor Punta era!
According to the 2006 3rd Edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson the 17-3 engineering change came about in 1967, diamond grips were deleted in 1968, and the 17-4 engineering change came about in 1977. So, your Model 17 probably dates somewhere between 1967 and 1977. I'm not sure if there is a later edition of the Standard Catalog, but mine lists "As New In Box" as $600 and Excellent condition as $475; which I believe are low for today's market.
I wouldn't sell my ANIB Model 17, no dash, for $600!0 -
NIB 750.00 to 850.00 0 -
It is not NIB as it has been fired. I would say $600 would be a good estimate of a fair price. 0 -

Thanks for responding. Not sure how that ties in with the Bangor Punta era?Smith & Wesson was sold to Bangor Punta Alegre Sugar Corp. in 1965 I believe. I believe Lear Siegler then purchased Smith & Wesson in 1984. So, your Model 17-3 falls into what is referred to as the Bangor Punta era.0
