ACOG VS EOTECH

MISTERCOFFEE
I have an Eotech 512 paired with a 3x flip to side magnifier. Works great. I have been looking at a 4x ACOG with a RMR mounted on top for close encounters. Anyone use the ACOG setup? How is it for close up work?

    i have both the Eotech 512 and the Trijicon 4x ACOG, i do not do any combat drills, but i find the ACOG to be very reliable for close in targets, such as rolling a 3 lb. coffee can from 25 feet out to 200 yds., i can not do that with the EoTech as seeing the can beyond 100 yds. is very difficult, both sights are mounted on similar carbines, 1-9 twist, both 6721 Colt uppers.

    Do you have a magnifier on the eotech? And the acog has no red dot on it?

    On this gun I have an ACOG TAO1 for distance and open sights mounted on the side for close targets.

    I had the same idea on which to go with and settled on the EOTech 512 because I wanted a very sure close range carbine weapon for 10-50 yards.
    And, it does that better IMO because the holograph is quicker in sure targeting as no matter what the parallax angle the red dot is where the bullet goes.
    I was concerned that while i was hitting multiple targets I was unsure I was and this set up gives me the assurance that when I point and shoot it goes where i expected allowing me to move to the next target knowing the last has been neutralized.

    However, the big surprise was at 100 and 200 yards. I can do consistent 2 inch rapid fire groups at 100 and sure head shots at 200 yards and that was certainly unexpected (To my satisfaction).

    My rig is a LBC M4 police carbine (2010 version) and I am rarely as happy with both a gun and sight as I have been with this set up.

    The open sight is mounted to a short piccitiny rail that is secured thru the cooling holes in the top of the handguard. It has two rails, one at 12 O'clock and one at 45 degrees to the side. I just tilt the gun to the right to use the sights since Iam a lefty. Works great.

    I have had each I like the eotech as I can co-witness my iron sights if needed for targets at a distance

    I sighted mine in at 25meters and can smash a clay pigeon consistently out to about 125yds with the eotech that is when I go to the irons and continue to smash them until I run out of gun range at 215yds

    I tried to mount it to my Bullseye pistol once BIG mistake the 1moa dot was just too small. I went back to my ultra dot 4moa for competitive shooting

    I love my 512 also. Like I say, I have it paired with a 3x flip to side Eotech magnifier and it it is awesome.

    Two completely different set ups.

    I have both. Though I prefer the 3.5x35TA11 over the 4x32.

    IMO the ACOG/RMR set up is an attempt to make the ACOG something it isnt and the magnifier/red dot set up is the same kind of deal. as the current set ups are.

    The ACOGMRD set up, while allowing quicker somewhat more accurate shots up close, still doesnt transition as quick as a red dot thats offset slightly to the left, on about the same plain as the ACOG or slightly lower.

    The high mounting position can cause problems up close. Reguardless of where the dots pointing your gonna shoot low.

    The RD/M set ups, are slower to transition and the FTS magnifier could be seen as a liability in close quarters and over grown places. On top of this the fixed power monoculars dont have a fast range finder, or variable magnification, and most red dots dont have finger adjustable turrets.. When the batteries go down, you only have a monocular.

    ACOGMRD= Acog, mini red dot
    RD/M= red dot/magnifier

    Out of the two, for use outdoors and in must and brush and rain I'd go with the ACOG. It is tuff and doesnt need batteries.


    Or a Aimpoint H-1 with the propertary magnifier and twist mount, if a red dot sight was the primary need.

    What I like about the eotech is you can co witness through the sight with you buis. You cannot do that with the Acog. If you are in brush, how can you see anything with an Acog?
