value of boxes?
Recently bought a 6904 smith and wesson, Item came with a box which was for a 5906. Seller was a pawn store said that was how he got it and sold as is.
The box probably adds zero to the gun I have, so I was just wondering if it is worthy anything or is it just card board without the original gun?
Looks like one listed auction side since may.. Chances are not probably just do a giveaway unless someone thinks it adds value to the 6904... Never been much of a collector so boxes mean little to me.

People are always looking for original boxes for their guns. List it on the auction side and I'm sure you'll be surprised at what you get.

If the box is NOT the one the gun left the factory in, its not of much value to a collector, but it is something you can store your gun in, so it does have value.
If the box is original to the gun it tends to enhance the guns value. Very old boxes, by themselves, have sold for big bucks. I saw a very old series, red S&W box sell for just over $1,000 on ebay a few years ago.
Your box being for a newer series would not sell for much unless someone had THE gun that came in it. I would just keep it for storing your 6904 in.0 -

The newer boxes contain labels that are serialized to the gun.
I've bought a few of the blue plastic boxes on Ebay (just to put guns in), and they are worth maybe $10-15.
Older boxes *could* be worth more, but they probably have to be pretty scarce, first.0 -
Many guys are looking to get boxes for thier guns...
Years ago most where thrown out when guns were put on display. If someone wanted a box. One was pulled without care for serialization. More like what was on top or handy.0
