Need help with a bolt action shotgun

I purchased a Mossberg New Haven 12 gauge bolt action shotgun this past weekend. When I got it home, I noticed that when I pull the bolt back, it easily pulls out the back. My concern is that if I am in the field and trying to get off 2 shots in a hurry, there is a good chance that I would end up pulling the bolt out the back of the gun and it is also kind of annoying. Does it sound like a piece is missing that is suppose to catch the bolt and prevent it from pulling out the back? If so, what is the piece called and how hard is it to replace?

I have owned 2 other bolt action guns, and their bolts never pulled out the back and usually had a release button for cleaning. But I dont see where a release button is even suppose to be on this gun.

    are you holding the trigger back as you pull the bolt

    Check the return spring on your trigger, and
    make sure the mechanism is not gummed up.
    to release the bolt, with the bolt open pull
    the trigger it will lower the latch and let the bolt
    come out. Hope this helps.

    No, I am not holding the trigger back as I pull the bolt. When I pull the bolt back it just freely comes back and out.

    I am not sure where the return spring is on my trigger. However, when I take the bolt completely out and I pull the trigger, it clicks, then I can press a little piece of metal with my finger and trigger clicks back forward. Is this how it should work?

    I have a Model 495. I looked at the link, but I dont see anything about trigger springs. The gun I bought came from an auction, and I am guessing that it had not been fired for quite some time as it had quite a bit of rust, I sprayed a whole bunch of oil around the trigger and it has loosened up. However, the bolt still just freely falls out, so I have a strong feeling a part is missing or broken.

    Call,, That's what is says at the top.. As these mossberg age parts come and go Vic only lists what he usually has readily on hand.

    Check the left side of the receiver "shield" - there probably is a threaded hole in it. If there,the bolt retaining screw is missing. This screw, when installed, fit into a groove in the bolt and stopped the bolt from being pulled entirely out. If the hole is not there, forget the above.
