Model 12 Barrel & Receiver disassembly
Hello,
What is the proper way to separate the barrel from the receiver on a Winchester Model 12 16 gauge shotgun? Also, the proper way to reassemble the barrel to the receiver. Thank you.

There is a pin located at the front of the magazine tube, from the left side, push it in. Next, turn the magazine tube to the right, till it stops. Make sure the forend slide is all the way up, grasp the barrel and mag tube together and turn to the right, then the whole front end of the gun will seperate from the reciever. When you reassemble, make sure the action rod is all the way up so it won't gouge the reciever at the takedown point, then just follow the disassembly procedure in reverse. There are two arrows to line up, one on the magazine tube, and one on the reciever extension, when fully assembled, these arrows should line up point to point. 0 -
Does the pump need to be down toward the receiver when you turn the pin to disassemble the barrel from the receiver? Thank you. 0 -
Pump handle fully forward, push pin in at end of magazine tube. This will allow you to turn magazine tube. Turn tube loose and then hold barrel/pump handle/magazine tube assy and turn loose. At 1/2 turn threads disengage and barrel/pump handle/magazine tube assy all come free from receiver. No forcing required.
You will notice there is a small inner screw now visible, this is to tighten and adjust threads for fit between barrel and receiver.
Many Win lever rifles takedown in similar fashion.0
