Hello all. I purchaesed a 1911 a few years ago and I am not sure what I have. I looked up the serial number and it said that it could be a Union Switch ands Signal or a Colt. It has a Colt slide but does not say colt on the frame. On the mag release side behind the triger are the letters GHD, on the trigger guard on the fron is a W. The serial number is 1687155. There are crossed cannons on the side just forward of the hammer. There is also some writing on the frame above and forward of the serial number. I can sen pics but can't figure out how to upload them here.

    Thanks,
    Rick

It would be a richeous 1918 Colt, except somebody done monkeyed with the sights. Hopefully they didn't do any permanent damage to the slide, so that they can be replaced with correct period repos.

With the direct lighting your using with the photos having a hard time figuring if the finish is original all so. It looks way to shiney/reflective for a 1918 to me?

Just the front sight is wrong?

    Thanks

Rear sight has been replaced also, can't tell if the original dovetail has been altered though? The early 1911's of the WW I era had comparatively small rear sights.

Agree with rufe, it is too shiny for a 1918 service model. And there is some blurring of lines. I think it reblued, but have seen worse.

    Looks reblued to me.

A refinished M1911 with sights replaced would sell in the $600-800 range.
