has anybody owned / shot these yet ?

  Never shot one, but looked at them at SHOT. I really like it, but the prices I have seen them listed for, I could get a 642. I do think its a little heavier than the Smith. I don't recall how much.
  
  I felt they were well put together when looking at them.
  
  Another gun they put out that I liked was the 45 that took 1911 mags.
  
  Maybe they are trying to get away from their past of cheaper made guns?

  I've heard nothing but negative remarks about these guns.
  
  They're basically knockoffs of the Smith J-frame. They LOOK very nice, but reportedly, they're flimsy with poor build quality, including sheet metal and cast parts. You can see some issues related to function in this online review:

  Incidentally, I recently had the opportunity to go shooting at the Scottsdale gun club. . .its very nice if you get a chance to go out there.
  
  Back on the gun, the Cobra "Shadow" costs $350 new, and the Smith 642 costs $450 new, or roughly $400 used. For me this is a complete no-brainer. At very little more money, the used Smith is a better buy than any of the second (or in this case, third) tier guns.
